It allows one to play the Switch in tabletop mode and charge it at the same time. In most cases that can’t be done using the Switch’s built in kickstand, as the USB-C port is on the bottom. There is no HDMI port so this doesn’t replace the Nintendo Switch dock.

Charger Options

It is designed to work with the Nintendo Switch AC adapter. But that means moving it back and forth from your dock. Which is a hassle. You can use a number of third party USB-C PD chargers to the same effect. Most any USB-C wall charger will provide enough power to play and charge at the same time.

Nintendo Switch AC Adapter | Review

You could always buy a second Switch AC adapter. Licensed by Nintendo for use with the Switch and stand. It has a built-in cable, which is one less thing to buy. But its design isn’t travel friendly.

Google 18W USB-C Power Adapter | Review

Made for the Google Pixel, it has a solid build quality and reputation. It provides enough power to charge the Switch in handheld or tabletop mode. Includes a detachable USB-C cable. If its prongs would fold it could be considered perfect.

ZMI PowerPlug Turbo | Review

A great all rounder USB-C wall charger. Handles most phones, tablets, and small to mid sized laptops. Not to mention the Nintendo Switch in handheld, tabletop, or TV mode. It includes a detachable USB-C cable. And is travel friendly with a sleek design and folding prongs.
