AUKEY PB-Y36 Sprint Go Mini 10000 PD – A compact, dual fast charging power bank

This is a product analysis, not a review. I do not have this product in hand (yet) to do a full testing. The information presented here is based on specs and details offered by AUKEY.

AUKEY is offering pre-orders on a new power bank. Model PB-Y36, named the Sprint Go Mini 10000 PD. At first glance it looks like another 18W/10,000mAh power bank. But this one does something its peers do not. It can support both USB PD and Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging outputs simultaneously!

Tech Specs

  • Ports: USB-C, USB-A
  • Capacity: 10,000mAh / 37Wh
  • USB-C Output: 18W USB-C PD (5V/3A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A)
  • USB-A Output: 18W Quick Charge 3.0
  • 37W total output
  • USB-C Input: 18W USB-C PD (5V/3A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A)
  • Size: 4.1 x 2 x 1 inches | 105 x 50 x 25 mm
  • Weight: 6.9 oz | 195 grams

  • 37W total output, allowing for 18W USB PD via USB-C and 18W Quick Charge 3.0 via USB-A together
  • Trickle charge mode, for earbuds, fitness trackers, and wearables

Dual fast charging output is a rare quality for power banks in general. And unheard of until now with more compact models. It will be able to fast charge both my iPhone 8 and Moto G6 together. I have only tested one other power bank which can do that. And it is huge (7.1 x 3.1 x 0.9 in | 180 x 80 x 22 mm) in comparison. Dual fast charging will use up the limited 10,000mAh capacity faster than with slower models. So use the feature when short term recharge is more important than long term runtime.

Trickle charge mode forces a power bank to stay on for a period of time, usually two hours. Power banks switch off when power draw is low or zero, to save power. That’s ideal in most cases. But things like Bluetooth earbuds, watches, and fitness trackers draw low current. So a power bank can turn off, even while they are trying to recharge. With trickle charge the power bank stays on, so those devices can charge completely.

What Is It Good For?

As with most 10,000mAh power banks this is a good, lower cost option for keeping handheld devices topped off. Whether it is recharging your phone during your commute. Or adding a few hours of play time to a Nintendo Switch for a domestic flight.

The support of both USB PD and Quick Charge allows it to fast charge a large number of devices.

USB Power Delivery devices include:

  • Apple iPhone 8/X/XR/XS/11
  • Apple iPad Pro
  • Google Pixel
  • LG ThinQ
  • Nintendo Switch
  • Samsung Galaxy S8/S9/S10
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 8/9/10
  • Xiaomi Mi 8/9

Quick Charge 3.0 compatible devices include:

  • LG
  • Motorola
  • Nokia
  • Samsung Galaxy

But the big selling point is the dual fast charging output. That is a rare quality. And if desired it is enough to justify buying AUKEY’s newer power bank over the competition.

The AUKEY PB-Y36 Sprint Go Mini 10000 PD meets or exceeds the output performance of its peers. When you include the dual fast charging output none of them can match how fast it can charge two devices at once.

Its specs show a similar size to Anker’s most compact USB-C PD power bank. Neither are the wider, but thinner design. Which rests more comfortably in your hand if holding the power bank and phone together. The AUKEY also doesn’t weigh any more. So you wouldn’t notice it any more than another power bank in your bag.

It doesn’t appear to include a USB-C cable. But even so the total cost of this power bank and a good cable is still cheaper than models which do include a cable.
