First Impression

The Inateck 60W PD USB-C is a solid, standard issue 60W USB-C PD wall charger. That’s more than I could say for similar chargers included with laptops. They tend to have unusual power profiles. Inateck’s charger meets with USB-IF standards. That means it can support USB-C devices from accessories on up to a laptop. It is slim, opting for a taller form factor. The glossy sides look pretty, but they also attract smudges. And they aren’t helpful when certain people need to take pictures for a review.

Device Testing

Check with your device’s manufacturer to verify which charging standards it supports.

USB Power Delivery & Quick Charge 4+ Phones

  • Apple iPhone 8/X/XR/XS
  • Essential Phone
  • Google Pixel
  • LG ThinQ/V30
  • Razer
  • Samsung Galaxy S8/S9/S10
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 8/9
  • Xiaomi Mi 8/9
  • ZTE Axon Pro 9/10

Using an iPhone 8 for testing we find USB PD phones will fast charge over the USB-C port. iPhones will need to use a USB-C to Lightning cable, not included. And Android phones will need a USB-C to USB-C cable, also not included.

Quick Charge 3.0 Phones

  • HTC
  • LG
  • Motorola
  • Nokia
  • Samsung Galaxy
  • Sony
  • Xiaomi Mi 5/6
  • ZTE

Using a Moto G6 for testing we get normal charging rates. As no Quick Charge or compatible fast charging standard is supported that’s as fast as it goes. Still, 9-10W is a decent charge rate.

Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch charges at its max rate, up to 18W. It’ll fast charge while you play. Its charge rate while sleeping is also normal. This charger can also power the Switch’s dock.

Learn more about charging the Switch.

USB-C Laptops

Using a 13-inch MacBook Pro for testing we can draw up to 56W from this charger. That’s expected, after accounting for efficiency loss.

Different model laptops have different power demands. But in general a 60W charger can support up to 13-inch/14-inch laptops under any condition. It can also support a 15-inch laptop under light use. Or charge it while sleeping.

USB-IF Certification

Technically this charger isn’t USB-IF certified… but it is. The charger received its certification out of the factory, which is a member of the USB-IF. Inateck purchases and re-brands the charger from that factory for retail sale. The act of re-branding is common in the industry. Compare Inateck’s 60W USB-C charger to this Monoprice 45W USB-C charger. They use the same exterior casing, which comes from the same source.

Inateck is not a dues paying member of the USB-IF. So they aren’t allowed to use the USB-IF certified label in their marketing. But the charger doesn’t get modified, so it has the same qualities that got it certified out of the factory.

Summary

The Inateck 60W PD USB-C is a great, well rounded USB-C wall charger. Designed for travel with a slimmer profile, folding prongs, and long 6.6 USB-C cable included. Compare that to Apple’s 61W USB-C power adapter. Which is larger, heavier, does not include a USB-C cable. And until 2018 didn’t support all the power profiles it should.

For phone it’ll fast charge newer iPhones, newer Samsungs, and the Google Pixel. LG and Moto phones will charge at a respectable rate. But no fast charging for Quick Charge 3.0 enabled devices.

For the Nintendo Switch it charges in handheld mode as fast as any other option. And can power a docked Switch. Enough said.

It’ll handle the power needs of a 12 to 14-inch laptop with USB-C. And work with most 15-inch models under most conditions. Some 15-inch models may want more power. Especially if running videos games or resource intense apps all day long.

I like this charger for commuting or traveling with a USB-C laptop. Its included cable is longer than usually needed, and has its own velcro wrap to keep it neat. I’ve also used it to setup a docked Switch at friends’ homes. And with a USB-C to Lightning cable it’ll charge my phone when not charging the larger devices.

If you don’t own a USB-C laptop this charger may be overkill. It’s priced well for 60W. But you could get a 45W charger for less that would work as well with everything up to a 13-inch laptop. USB-C is here to stay and you will get more such devices over time. Buying a 60W charger over a 45W could future-proof your power needs.

Bottom Line

The Inateck 60W PD USB-C has been one of my regular travel charger for my laptop and Switch dock. Equally great for smaller USB-C PD devices. An all-in-one single port charger for anyone with a growing collection of USB-C devices.

Buy if you:
  • Need a second charge for your MacBook Pro, especially 13-inch models
  • Are looking for an all-in-one single port charger for several USB-C devices
  • Prefer chargers which have under gone USB-IF certification process
Don’t buy if you:
  • Don’t work any USB-C devices larger than a tablet, and don’t wish to future proof
  • Want to fast charge a LG or Motorola Android phone
  • Need to charge two or more devices at once
