First Impression

The Zikko eLUGGAGE L Worldwide Travel Smart Adapter (that’s a mouthful) has a clever world plug solution. The USA plug is built-in and folds. While folded in the other included plug adapters connect through the USA plug. I go over it more below. Otherwise the charger is a normal square brick, common among 45W chargers. There are wide grooves on the sides, adding grip.

World Plugs

The Zikko EL200 model charger includes plug adapters for Type C (Europe, South America, Asia), Type G (UK), and Type I (Australia/New Zealand). A Type A plug (USA/China/Japan) is built-in. Its input allows for 100-240V, covering all voltages worldwide. Before you travel abroad verify which plug type you’ll need.

The built-in USA plug folds, making it travel friendly. The three other plug adapters connect to the built-in prongs while folded. It reminds me of the swappable plug system found on Apple’s laptop chargers. Once connected the plug adapters don’t move and won’t come loose. They are flush with the top, but of course protrude out.

I like this system for Type A residences who travel overseas some. But still want a travel friendly charger for domestic trips. Many of us don’t travel enough to justify a domestic charger and a world charger. With the Zikko charger I can put away the plug adapters and it is as easy to pack as any USA only charger. Should you go abroad you already have plug adapters that work in a 150 countries.

Weekend with the Zikko eLuggage L

With a charger built for travel I had to take it somewhere for its test run. But where should I go –   Ireland, Brazil, Japan? As it turned out I had a weekend trip already scheduled… a few hours drive away in the same state. So I didn’t get a chance to test out the world adapters. But the charger was still a good companion.

I only needed to charge while in the hotel room. Once again a dual port charger was good for charging both iPhones overnight. We needed both a regular and a USB-C lightning cable to do that. The rest charged as needed and we didn’t miss having a third USB port on the short trip. Had I needed to bring a 13-inch MacBook Pro this charger would keep it running as well.

Summary

The Zikko eLUGGAGE L Worldwide Travel Smart Adapter is a great choice for world travelers. It can be an all-in-one charger for anyone with a phone, Switch, and 13-inch USB-C laptop. It charges across both ports at full output. Besides the USB-C PD 45W output, the USB-C port also offers Quick Charge 3.0. An Android phone with USB-C and QC support will charge faster than with regular USB-C. An iPhone 8 or X will also get fast charge speeds when using a USB-C to Lightning cable.

The connection for the world plugs is clever and maintains the folding benefits of a Type A plug. With the UK plug connected I had no concerns about it coming loose on its own. In fact it took some effort to pull it off. But when traveling you’ll only need to put it on and pull it off once. So I’ll take the firm connection.

Zikko was founded in 1998 in Hong Kong. Many of their products involve charging and data transmission. In 2014 they received Apple MFi certification and have been retail partners with Apple in Asian markets. They have warehouses in Los Angeles, London, Moscow, and Hong Kong. If your regional Amazon doesn’t offer the charger you can find it on their site. They’ll sell and ship it worldwide.
